Carl Nielsen Clarinet Concerto op. 57 (1928), Serenata in Vano (1914), Quintet for wind instruments op. 43 (1922)
Serenata in Vano, whose first (1937) recording, made by friends of the composer (including Oxenvad) has been reissued in the Clarinet Classics release – a document worth cherishing. The same reissue gives us the Wind Quintet in its own first recording (1936), again by Nielsen’s friends, four of the original members of the group the composer wrote the work for – an invaluable document of spare, precise yet personalised playing.
