The French Collection
French composers for every audience, selected by Founder and Executive Director Victoria Soames Samek.
French repertoire for a clarinetist is like German repertoire for a pianist; it would be unthinkable to learn either instrument without the inclusion of music written by the great composers from both Countries. For the clarinet it is impart due to the players during the 18th, 19th and indeed 20th century who were both the develop the clarinet as an instrument and in so doing inspire the composers of the day. For this collection I have included my Solos de Concours CD which includes some of the best known and loved repertoire written for this wonderful tradition. Ravel and Debussy and Debussy are quintessential the key representative of impressionists. To hear them beautifully arranged for clarinet quartet will give the listener hours of pleasure as it has me! The collection would not be complete without including the great French player of today Philippe Cuper in a CD of 20th century chamber music and a CD devoted to the complete music written by his teacher Louis Cahuzac. An irresistible collection and a must for all players and enthusiasts.
