A few words from Chris Jolly
Busk was written for Victoria Samek in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Clarinet & Saxophone Classics.
As it’s title suggests there is an improvisatory and explorative feel to the opening as if the player is finding melodies as they play. This expressive and free opening gives way to a more energetic section exploring how the range of the clarinet can be exploited to deliver a melody and accompaniment together.
The world premiere recording by Victoria Samek on her album “Journeying in Time” (CC0084) will be released on Clarinet & Saxophone Classics in November 2026
