June Emerson: 4U Menuet Masqué
A few words from Xander Hunfeld
Although 4U composition was written for some friends, the musical content of this piece is not so cheerful! It represents a quest for retrieving lost moments from the past. For this reason it also will be used as an intermezzo in ‘Two Portraits’ for Clarinet, soprano voice and piano. As a separate piece entitled ‘4U’ it can be performed in the combination of clarinet/piano or saxophone/organ.
As a composer Xander Hunfeld embraces the philosopher Karl Popper’s distinction between objective and subjective music. He exerts his musical gifts and emotions to musical matters in a constant give-and-take between himself and his works. In other words, he always uses himself as a test subject.
