Henri Bok is the world’s most highly acclaimed exponent of the bass clarinet and alongside his Internationally demanding solo career, has been responsible for numerous new works to be written for the instrument by notable composers. The repertoire on this disc covers more than 80 years: from François Rasse’s “Lied” (1921) – one of the first works written for bass clarinet and piano to Loeb’s “Sonata Lirica” and Söll’s “Mirabelles” – both composed end 2002. If anyone ever questioned the bass clarinet as a solo instrument, Henri Bok’s dynamic playing and wonderful programme, will persuade you otherwise.
