ChamberSax!! Music for Saxophone and Other Instruments – 1920-1940
Very few saxophone chamber discs have been made, making this recording a significant addition to the recorded catalogue. The works featured on this CD were written at the beginning of the modern saxophone’s history and the programme explores how important composers of differing styles made use of the new instrument in a chamber music setting. Kyle Horch brings together a fascinating collection of music, much of which is currently unavailable. These include Koechlin’s Epitaph for Jean Harlow, the exotic Quatuor by Villa Lobos for flute, alto sax harp, celeste and female voices, a fascinating Quintet by Adolf Busch, leader of the legendary Busch Quartet, Hindemith’s Trio, featuring the tenor saxophone and Webern’s concise Quartet.
