Roger Heaton has been playing new music and working with composers for over 40 years. These sessions concentrate on clarinet and bass clarinet technique particularly in more recent music since the 1960s, though Roger does include earlier classics by the likes of Stravinsky, Berg and Messiaen. This is music that uses techniques you won’t normally find in the core repertoire.

• Flutter Tongue
• Glissando 
• Multiphonics (with fingerings and splitting notes)
• Singing and playing
• Microtonal playing
• Circular breathing
• High notes (altissimo)
• Extreme dynamics
• Complex rhythms 

The sessions are built around your needs, whether that is help with a particular technique or techniques, something specific in your playing you’d like to look at, approaching a new piece you’d like to play or  looking at a piece you are already working on, this maybe sections rather than the whole piece – the emphasis is technical and practical. Sessions are open to all but would suit the more advanced player and students currently on, or thinking about, higher education courses.
