June Emerson: Metrics for Woodwind
A few words from Xander Hunfeld
METRICS FOR WOODWINDS
Berio’s Sequenzas and Ravel’s use of variable metrics, inspired me to write Metrics: original compositions for different solo instruments. The basis of variation of tempo in variable metrics is a mathematical classification system: a mathematical series determines the order and length of the beats. In Metrics the series of Fibonacci, a mathematical series, determines the order and length of periods. In accordance with the definition of variable metrics, the composition is a form of metrics. My Metrics are often written at the request of virtuoso musicians.
