Reflection – Clarinet Concertos by Gerald Finzi, Graham Fitkin and Carl Davis
An exciting release featuring one of the best loved British concertos in the repertoire by Gerald Finzi and two world premiere recordings.
Spanning a period of fifty years and highlights the wonderful tradition so prevalent in the clarinet’s history of clarinet players inspiring composers to write for them. Gerald Finzi’s clarinet concerto which dates back to 1948 and was dedicated to the clarinettist Pauline Juler, David Campbell brings his authoritative playing to two concertos written for him. Graham Fitkin’s concertos is hugely engaging and highlights both the lyrical and more challenging ideas associated with this eminent composer. Carl Davis, who as one of the most successful composers of film music, brings his skills as a more serious composer to a highly attractive new work.
Combining both the well loved and the brand new, this important recording features the Aurora Orchestra, who are making their first recording under the principal conductor Nick Collon.
