Rob Keeley – Ring! and other works
This recording devoted to the highly respected composer and pianist Rob Keeley, celebrates an artistically rich and inspirational relationship developing between composer and instrumentalist, resulting in major new works being written and dedicated to those players. The clarinet’s extensive wealth of repertoire by some of the great 18th and 19th century composers such as Mozart, Brahms, are a testament to this tradition, which continues. It is from such a collaboration with Victoria Samek that inspired this recording
“I have recently been inspired to compose a large number of works for clarinets in various combinations, largely as a result of his extremely happy and fruitful collaboration with Victoria Samek.” Rob Keeley
Rob Keeley (b. 1960) is a highly respected London-based composer and pianist who has contributed a significant amount to the clarinet and saxophone repertoire. He cites Stravinsky and Poulenc as two of his most significant influences, and his extensive output of wind chamber music shares with these two masters a concision and sense of humour coupled with an accessible and personal lyricism.
Rob is particularly interested in exploring some of the more unusual combinations of these instruments, such as the clarinet trio, bass clarinet with string quartet, and clarinet quartet with piano. Many of Rob Keeley’s clarinet works are published within Samek Music.
“With surprisingly few chamber works featuring the bass clarinet, this concentrated single movement 10 minute piece written at Victoria Samek’s request: it is also dedicated to her.” Rob Keeley
